Obituary

James Melvin, 71 husband of Naomi Melvin passed away peacefully on November 6, 2003. Melvin, as he was fondly called by all, was born on July 31, 1932 to the late Gus Maultsby and Rebecca Melvin in Maxton, North Carolina. He had been a Hamden resident for over 37 years. Melvin was emplolyed at the Olin Corporation for over 30 years and was a member of Local 609, in which he served as a shop steward and union trustee for many years. He was an Army veteran, who served in the Korean War. Melvin was also a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church of New Haven. He was an avid baseball fan with the NY Mets being his favorite team. In addition to his wife Naomi of 47 years, Melvin is survived by his sons, James C. (Loretta) and Michael of Hamden, Stanley (Daphne) of Texas, daughter Darlene (John) of Virginia, brothers Jessie MacArthur and Gus Maultsby of NC, and Charles Vinnie of NV, sisters Emma Mae Meeks, Ophelia Maultsby and Isabell Eggerton of NC and Willa Campbell of PA. Melvin was blessed to be grandpa to 14 wonderful grandchildren and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Tanya D. Melvin, a brother, Albert Clarence McArthur and a granddaughter, Melissa Melvin. Friends may greet the family on Tues., Nov. 11, 2003 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 a.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 255 Goffe St. New Haven, CT Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Centerville Cemetery, Washington Ave. Hamden.
