Jean M. Akin, longtime resident of Ardmore Street, Hamden, died of natural causes on Sunday, October 10, 2010 in MA, five days after her 85th birthday. In 2009 she moved to Massachusetts to be near her son Don Akin and his wife Pam of Sudbury, and her grandchildren, Calder, Kelby, and Ariana. Jean was born in New Haven on October 5, 1925 the only child of the late Wade and Ethel Mower Marks. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Glenn Akin in 1966 and her son Mark in 1976. While living in Hamden, Jean received numerous local and state recognitions for her work on behalf of the Hamden Town Library. Friends may join Jean's family for a Funeral Service on Sunday, October 17th at 1:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will be private.
