Joan B. McCann of Hamden, passed away November 21, 2008 surrounded by her loving family at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born on January 19, 1933 in Keene, NH, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Marie Walsh Barrett. Joan attended Hamden High School and Larson College before entering her banking career at Union Trust Bank. She was the loving sister of Jerri Narracci and beloved mother of Richard McCann, Gerry Remer & husband Ron, Chris Martino & husband Rich, Beth Seeger & husband Dave, Joyce Lockery & husband Dave, Mary Fitzgerald & husband Michael all of Hamden and Amy Keary & husband Jim of Fairfield and Barbara Morris & husband Gene of North Attleboro, MA. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Dave & Matt Remer, Emily McCann, David & Katie Seeger, Andrew & Tori Morris, Molly & Robert Martino, Patrick & Kathleen Fitzgerald, Megan Lockery, Maggie, Maura, Bridget & Annie Keary and a great-granddaughter Sydney Remer. Joan also is survived by her brother in-law Steve & nephews Michael, Stephen, Robby & Ricky Narracci. She was predeceased by her sister Patty, brother Billy and husband Richard. As a longtime parishioner of St. Rita Church, she served on the parish council, the altar floral decorating committee and was a member of the folk choir. When she left banking Joan chose to be a caregiver for the elderly and for a number of years as a real estate agent. She spent her spare time helping out with her grandchildren. Her joy in life was her family and she opened her heart and home to all, to Joan it was always the more, the merrier. She loved family gatherings, holidays and parties and had a passion and talent for cooking. Family vacations were very special to her and she lovingly took the time and energy to find charming vacation homes all over New England to accommodate her ever growing family. Joan enjoyed playing games with friends and family, arts and crafts with her grandchildren, reading cookbooks, crossword puzzles, antiquing and gardening. Her funeral will leave from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Monday at 10:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the Church of St. Rita. Friends may also visit with her family at the funeral home on Sunday November 23, 2008 from 2 to 7 PM. Burial will take place in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
