John J.
Bianchi
August 20, 1942 – October 9, 2024
John J. Bianchi, 82, of Northford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 9, 2024. Born to the late Joseph A. and Anne Pompano Bianchi in New Haven on August 20, 1942. He grew up in East Haven, attending school in the parish of St. Vincent de Paul and later, East Haven High School. During classes at the University of New Haven, John met Beverly Kaiser, the love of his life and his cherished wife of 57 years.
John had a natural "mechanical mind," spending hours with his Uncle Peter in his garage, learning all facets of engine and car repair. He transformed that talent into a lifelong career at Pratt & Whitney in mechanical engineering and tool support services, where he fostered a mutual respect and camaraderie amongst his team members. He counted amongst his friends clients from all over the US and the world.
In his spare time, John always had a project in the works, whether it was rebuilding a car or redoing something in the house. He always had time for a friend needing an oil change or a tire rotation and never missed an opportunity to be helpful.
John also had a lifelong love of the water, savoring hours spent boating in the Long Island Sound. He always fondly remembered his trip up the east coast of the US, where the crew encountered a "perfect storm" and came home with too many stories to tell.
His family was the greatest source of pride for John. More than being merely proud, he admired the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and was known to shed a tear at the many successes they shared with him.
Beside his parents, John was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Kristen Bianchi, whom he missed deeply for the past 15 years. He is survived by Beverly, as well as his son John and his wife Alexandra Shor, and their four children; his daughter Jennifer and her husband Stephen Clark and their six daughters; his granddaughter Macy and her husband Matthew Husted and their twin boys; and his only grandson, Michael Engengro. He is also survived by his sister Carole and her husband and John's dedicated best friend Roy Franceschet, and family; and his sister Judith and her husband Karl Derbacher, and family. Despite several medical setbacks, John was determined to maximize time with his family and friends and was always a keen conversationalist known for his quick wit. He particularly treasured his family's large Christmas Eve gathering with its traditional menu of Italian food and filet mignon. Above all, John delighted in seeing people gathered together in happy times.
Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday, October 15 th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday morning in Trinity Lutheran Church, 292 Orange St, New Haven, CT 06510, at 10:00 a.m., followed by his burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
