Obituary

John A. Fortuna, Jr., age 79, of Hamden passed away on November 26, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven on September 13, 1946, he was the oldest child of the late John A. Fortuna, Sr. and Frances Giampapa Fortuna. John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ginny (King) Fortuna and his natural son; his brother and sister in-law, Thomas and Dolores Fortuna, Sr.; his nieces, Lisa, Kate, and AnnaMarie; nephews, Tom Jr. and John; his great-niece Kallie Mae; and great-nephews, Brody, Beniamino, and Giovanni. John was predeceased by his brother, Robert Fortuna.

John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a fever pitch Boston Red Sox fan. With his brothers, he co-owned the former Grandma's Old Fashion Bakery, Family Bakery, and subsequently Family Music Center. A saxophone and keyboard player, John shared his love of music as the former bandleader of several bands, including the nationally touring Beau Geste Show Band.

Friends may attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 6, 2025 to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul VI Parish/Blessed Sacrament Church, 321 Circular Ave., Hamden. Burial will be private.
