John A. Popolizio, age 76, of Hamden passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on May 18, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol (Fappiano) Popolizio; his daughter, Melissa Dietz and her husband Jason of North Haven; his son, Paul Popolizio of Hamden; his grandchildren, Gabriella and Julianna Dietz and Dominic D'Aurio; his sister, Barbara Marchetto of North Branford; niece, Jacqueline Marchetto; and his good friends, Louie, Tommy, Billy, Mike and Gary. John had been a resident of Hamden for the past 48 years, moving from East Haven. He was a U.S. Army Reserve Veteran. John was a retired District Manager for ShopRite Stores and employed by A.B.D. of Roslyn Heights, New York as a food broker serving the Metro New York Market, then subsequently was employed by his friend Tom at Advanced Computer Systems. He was an avid New York Yankee and New York Giant fan and always enjoyed a game of golf.
Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday, May 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. All are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27th at 10:30 a.m., going directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish/St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven.
