MERIDEN - John "Tampa" Shider, Jr., 59, of 23 Catlin Street died Thursday, August 11, 2005 at his home. He was the husband of Lisa Pennyman Shider. Born in Smoaks, SC, Dec, 15, 1945, he was the son of the late John and Rozener Drain Shider, Sr. He was a master craftsman and was the owner and operator of the J & J Concrete Company. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Shider enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an avid gardener and loved to cook. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tammi Jordan of Waterbury and Rozina Shider of Meriden; two sons, John Shider III of Meriden and Roosevelt John "Tampa" Shider of Meriden; a sister, Ernestine Heyward of St. George, SC; a brother, Terry Hodges of New York, three grandchildren, Ashley, Shaneshia and Anijah Jordan, all of Waterbury; two aunts, Mattie Drain and Noreen Drain and an uncle, Johnny Lee Drain, all of Smoaks, SC; three nieces, Cathy, Tammy, KarenEyvonne Heyward all of St. George, SC; a greatniece and nephew, Shalante and Kieon Heyward, both of St. George, SC; and many close friends and relatives. He was predeceased by a brother, Roosevelt Shider. Funeral service Thursday, August 18, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meiden, Wednesday, August 17, from 5 to 9 p.m.
