Southington - Joseph A. Orlando, 93, husband of the late Gertrude (Britney) Orlando passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Middlesex Hospital. He was born July 13, 1915 in Meriden a son of the late Anthony and Ida (Hebert) Orlando. Joseph was a tool and die craftsman working for General Electric, Spartan Tool and retiring from Risdon Tool in Berlin. For twenty years, he and his wife lived six months in Hobe Sound, Florida and six months at their home in Southington. He loved camping and gardening; he even had a vegetable stand in front of his home. He is survived by a daughter, Donna Tomilonus of Southington, a son Robert and his wife Caroline Orlando of Southington, seven grandchildren and their spouses, Richard and Linnea Orlando, Thomas Orlando, Michelle and Theodore Kenyon, Denise and Paul Dittrich, Michael and Dore Tomilonus, Anna Marie and Brian Patchell and Adria Torcellini, 12 great-grandchildren, Tina and Daniel Orlando, Deanna, Matthew and Megan Dittrich, Aiyana and Clayton Cyr, Emily Tomilonus, Christopher Lombardo, Theodore C. Kenyon IV and Brendan and Jonathan Patchell, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Mullin and Eva Rapuano. Funeral service Saturday, January 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
