Karen S. Longa

October 31, 1950 — May 14, 2026

Woodbridge, CT

Karen Saxe Longa, 75, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 14 with her children and husband by her side. Karen was most of all the loving, silly “Mimi” to her grandsons Jonathan and Benjamin and granddaughter Lou; a loving, caring, and guiding “Ma” to her children Joe and Rachel; and the steward of the warm, welcoming household she and her loving husband Bill made together for nearly 47 years. Karen grew up in Niantic, CT and radiated light, spirit, and humor throughout her entire life. Her accomplishments are too numerous to recount here, but first and foremost to her was her career as a librarian at the Foote School in New Haven, where she touched the lives of so many young students. She was an avid gardener, a fierce cruciverbalist, a devoted and beloved friend, and a second “Mom” to her children’s many friends, who love and admire her to this day. She was strong, determined, and courageous to the end as she stood up to health challenges that most would find insurmountable.

She is survived by her grandchildren, children, husband, her sister Judy Robinson, brothers Stephen and Jeffrey Saxe and her nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her tremendously.

Friends are invited to attend her Graveside Service on Monday, May 18 at 3p.m. in Beth El Community Cemetery, 80 Lestertown Rd., Groton, CT. In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you consider making a contribution in her memory to the Foote School library using the following link: https://footeschool.ejoinme.org/MyPages/DonationPage/tabid/80334/Default.aspx and selecting "Library" from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, checks can be sent to Foote, made out to Foote School, with "Library" on the memo.
