Leila G. Wheatley, 85, wife of the late Harold Lewis Wheatley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012 surrounded by her family at Hamden Healthcare Center. She was born September 23, 1926 in Attleboro, MA a daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys Lake Streeter. Leila loved playing cards with her friends, writing poetry, was a member of the Davenport Dunbar writing group and was also a member of St. Rita's Church in Hamden. She is survived by a daughter, Joanne W. Johnson and her husband Geoffrey of Hamden, three sons, Michael D. Wheatley and Richard Wheatley and his wife Kathi all of Hamden and Daniel P. Wheatley of Ellsworth, Maine, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Streeter Jr., and Gordon Streeter and a sister Jean Bathgate. Her funeral will leave from BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Thursday, June 21 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Rita, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT.
