Lester 'Les' Overlock, Jr, age 64, cherished husband of Lauren Brooks Overlock, passed away peacefully at his home in Cheshire on June 6, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Haven on July 18, 1947 to the late Lester Overlock, Sr and Madelyn Williams Oertel of New Haven. Besides his wife and mother, Les leaves his daughters, Lissa Rustic and her husband Paul Pagano, Sr of Prospect, Jennifer Amato and her husband Adam of Cheshire; grandson, Kristopher Rustic of Prospect, brother, Frank Overlock and his wife Lisa of Naugatuck, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Les was predeceased by his son, Kirk Overlock. Les graduated from Hillhouse High School before proudly joining the US Air Force serving from 1965 to 1969. After retiring from the New Haven Police Department he worked at SNET for 30 years before retiring as a manager. Never one to sit still very long, Les had many part time jobs including Beecher & Bennett for many years and Rose Hill Funeral Home full time for the last 3 years. Les' faith was a big part of his life. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Cheshire having been a senior deacon, a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, youth mentor, part of the Interfaith Refugee Ministry, and served on many other boards and committees. Over the years he was also a softball and Little League coach, member of the AT&T Pioneers, VFW Post 7330, the American Legion, and the AFSCME Retirees. Les had a lifelong love of motorcycles which he shared with his family. He especially enjoyed weekend trips with his wife and day trips with his grandson. Les was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather, and will be remembered by many as an outgoing, likable, gracious man. His family would like to thank his amazing medical team who showed such care and compassion over the last seven months: Dr. Thomas Fynan, Dr. Christin Knowlton, Dr. Peter Huvelle, Dr. Peter Rogol, the staff members of Smilow and Father McGivney Cancer Centers and CT Hospice. Friends are invited to visit with his family on Sunday, June 10th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden and may attend his Funeral Service in the First Congregational Church of Cheshire on Monday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. followed by his burial in the Middletown Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.
