Lida (Shamett) Newhall, age 90, of West Haven, passed away on August 26, 2010 at the Masonic Health Care in Wallingford. Lida was predeceased by her husbands, Serge Shamett and William S. Newhall, her son Gregory P. Shamett and brother Sura Astacoff. Born in New Haven on May 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Nancy Gristchook Astacoff. Lida is survived by her son Serge Shamett and his wife Mary Ellen; her daughter in-law Maria Shamett-Edwards and her husband George of North Haven; grandchildren Gregory Shamett & his wife Lisa & children Gregory & Ava, Natasha Dempsey & her husband Patrick & children Clara & Finn, Mark Yourous, Annette Anderson & her children Scott, Kevin & Paul, Lisa Sabatka and Diane Yourous & her children Kyle & Erika. Lida formerly worked as an assembler for the Sargent Lock Co., she was a former expediter for Sikorsky Aircraft and co-operated with her husband the former Newhall Fuel Co. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Graveside Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Section-O in New Haven.
