Obituary

Lillian May (Eno) Maltese, 89 years old, a resident of West Haven for over 70 years, passed on October 22, 2018. Lillian was born on February 12, 1929 at Saint Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. She was the daughter of late Evelyn and Burton Gale. She has survived her siblings, Donald Eno, Ken Eno, Grace Hatchel, and Jean Spitler. Raised in the Momauguin section of East Haven, she lived her entire married life in West Haven. She was the beloved wife of 45 years to the late Joseph Kenneth Maltese, Sr. She leaves behind her three sons - J. Kenneth Maltese, Jr. (Diane), Kevin Michael Maltese (Lori) and James Scott Maltese (Jodi), 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her sons in their activities at West Haven High School and the University of Connecticut. She continued to follow both schools' sports activities becoming an avid fan of UConn Basketball. When her grandchildren, Kara and Kimberly, were active in softball and volleyball she loved attending their games. Lillian also enjoyed the neighborhood, celebrating holidays with joy and enthusiasm. An active member of the Grove Place Association she supported the beach parties, Christmas Santa visits to the children and always had a big turnout for Halloween. She took delight in creating imaginative Halloween costumes for her and Joe to attend the West Shore Fire House Halloween parties. Backyard parties for any excuse were often anchored on celebration of Veterans' holidays including Memorial Day, Veterans' Day and especially the 4th of July with the West Shore Fire Department Carnival and Fireworks. In her later years she enjoyed visits to Washington DC, the Amish country and various theatre groups throughout New England and the Northeast. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 10:00 AM in Porto Funeral Home, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 8:30-10:00 AM.
