Obituary

Reed, Lillie Ann (Heaviland) March 26, 1920-June 1, 2011, 91, Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT, June 1, 2011. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert C. Reed, a son, Robert C. Reed, Jr, and her parents, Harry L. and Blanche Bennett Heaviland. Mrs. Reed received a Diploma in Piano from Georgian Court College of Music where she studied with Sister Mary Beatrice and a B.A. in Music from Thomas A. Edison State College. She studied piano with Helen Benham, Herbert Burtis, Sylvia Reynolds Eckes and Joe Utterback. For many years she taught piano privately. She graduated from Monmouth Medical School of Nursing, earned a B.A. from Monmouth College and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from Montclair State College. For a number of years she was head nurse on pediatrics at Riverview Hospital and retired as Assistant Professor of Nursing at Brookdale Community College, where she was a member of the original faculty who forged the school's nursing program. Mrs. Reed has played in recital as Duo-pianist with Irene Hsu and Mary Kay Mason. For many years she was accompanist for her husband, the baritone Robert C. Reed, her daughter, the flutist Mardee Reed-Ulmer and for young instrumental students in competition and recital.Mrs Reed was a member of Shore Music Educators Association, the Monmouth Symphony League and the National Education Association. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Margretta Reed Seashore, New Haven, CT, Mary Beatrice Brunstetter, Honeoye Falls, NY, and Mardee Reed-Ulmer, Tinton Falls, NJ, seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The life of Lillie Ann Reed will be celebrated in a memorial service at the United Methodist Church, 247 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ at 11 Am on Monday, July 25th, 2011.
