On August 20, 2026, Lisa Elaine Hallgren, 68, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Born in Milford on September 29, 1957, to Robert and Laura Rivard Matthews, Lisa grew up in Hamden and North Haven. She went to Quinnipiac University and University of South Florida in Tampa, graduating with a degree in psychology. In 1981 she met Roy “Bud” Hallgren while they were both working at Wilshire Electronics in Massachusetts, and after getting married in 1984 they settled in Portland, Conn., where they spent many happy years together. Lisa worked as a customer service manager for Graphite Die Mold (later Morgan Applied Materials) in Durham until she retired in 2013.
A born hostess and an excellent cook, Lisa loved to entertain, cooking elaborate holiday dinners, making sure everyone had plenty to eat and drink. She could laugh and tell stories for hours. Lisa and Bud were avid boaters, spending many summer vacation days in favorite ports like Montauk, Block Island, and Essex. One of her fondest memories was an extended trip to Canada via the Hudson River, Erie Canal, and the Great Lakes. She was a voracious reader, ready to learn anything that captured her attention. She was always eager to gain more knowledge and try new things.
In addition to her husband Bud Hallgren, Lisa is survived by her sister Pamela Janssen (Urban), her sister-in-law Gail Schneck (Nelson), nieces and nephews Joyce Ippolito (Joseph), Matthew Carreira (Nicole), Ashley Turner (Mike), and grandnieces and -nephews Anthony, Elle, Amaya, Eden, and Andre. She was predeceased by her sister Linda Matthews Santillo.
Friends are invited to join Lisa’s family on Wednesday August 26, at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Followed by her burial in All Saints Cemetery. Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 in care of arrangements. Donations in Lisa’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org.
