Lois Rho passed away Sept. 10, 2009 at the age of 79 after a brief battle with cancer. Lois began her career as a teacher with the National Head Start Program in the early 60's in New Haven. She then moved to the Cheshire CT school system where she worked as a teacher and elementary school administrator for nearly thirty years. Since 1972 she was director and then principal of the Darcy School. There she began a collaboration with the Yale University Architecture department and pioneered one of the first early childhood learning programs to consider the space and design of a child's learning environment and its on early child development. After her retirement from the Cheshire School System, Lois was a member of the board of directors of the Gesell Institute of Human Development in New Haven and she consulted with ACES. She is survived by her four children; Jonathan Rho, Cindy Cipriani, Diane Rho-Caputo and Gena Rho-Smith and their spouses, eight grandchildren, brothers Gene Richard and David Richard and sister in-law Lillian Polio. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 830 Whitney Ave, New Haven on Thursday, Sept. 17th at 11:30 AM. Calling hours will be on Sept. 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM also at the church.
