Obituary

In New Haven, March 23, 2004, Lowell E. Olson, M.D., 75, husband of Barbara Dewey Olson of River Rd., North Haven. Born in Anamoose, North Dakota on July 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Fleming Olson. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and entered the Yale University School of Medicine in 1950. Lowell served his Internship and Residency at Yale - New Haven Hospital, followed by a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy where he served in both Operation Dewline and Operation Deep Freeze II as the medical officer aboard the U.S.S. Staten Island AGB-5 and where he attained the rank of Lt. Commander. In 1962 he spent a year in London, England at Chelsea Hospital For Women, Guy's Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital as well as the University of London, under the Kennedy Travel Fellowship in endocrinology and infertility. He became Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a specialty in Infertility in 1966. Lowell entered private practice in 1965 with his partners Irving Friedman and Paul Molumphy, retiring in 1998. During his time in private practice, he also served on the faculty of the Yale Medical School Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a clinical professor. He was a member of: The American Medical Assoc., The Connecticut State Medical Society, the New Haven County Medical Assoc., The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and The American, Canadian and New Haven Fertility Societies. Lowell authored many scientific studies published in various Medical Journals. He was dedicated to the practice of medicine and devoted to his family and friends. Besides his wife of 52 years, Barbara, he is survived by two daughters, Kristi Marciano and her husband, Lawrence, of Storrs, CT, Kari Olson of Ashford, CT and their dear friend, Michael Tulman, two brothers, Robert Olson of McAllen, TX and Gary Olson of Vista, CA. He was the beloved grandfather of Heather and David Varle, Lauren, Nicolas, Tyler and Joshua Marciano and great-grandfather of Ryan Schub. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jean Olson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial service will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, Whitney Ave. at Cold Spring St., New Haven, on Tuesday, March 30th at 1:00 P.M.
