Luciana Mocellin Lyon, age 89, of Hamden, passed away on April 6, 2013. Born in Venice, Italy on March 29, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Napoleon Mocellin & Anna Mohovich Mocellin. Mrs. Lyon came to the United Stated in 1946. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center for several years. In 1968 she went into full time private practice, at which time she was invited to join the Yale Faculty as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. She most cherished working with her clients, as well as teaching the Residents in Psychiatry at the Medical School. Her work held immense importance to her. Mrs. Lyon is the widow of John W. Lyon; mother of her beloved son, C. Bruce Gambardella and her daughter, Marilyn and grandmother of Bethany and April, who brought sunshine into her life and made even the darkest winter days feel like springtime. Her friends gave her much joy and comfort, may they be blessed. To all the other people who crossed her life's path, much gratitude and warmest wishes. It was her wish that there be neither a funeral nor memorial service, but rather that persons who felt close to her take a reflective walk in the sunshine (her favorite hobby) in her memory, while rejoicing in the wonders of nature and in the beauty of life. Luciana was an active and supportive member of the National Association of Social Workers for over 40 years. Befittingly, she requested that if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the National Association of Social Workers Foundation, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002 to support their scholarship programs.
