Marc Gerard Pypaert, 45, of Hamden, loving husband to Christine Deloyer Pypaert, passed away at the CT Hospice surrounded by his family and close friends on July 28, 2008. He was born in Ath, Belgium on April 3, 1963 to his mother, Simone Hubin, and the late Paul Pypaert. Besides his wife and mother, Marc leaves his five children, Celine, Elise, Laure, Nathan, and Manon Pypaert, all of Hamden, his siblings and their spouses Isabelle and Jean-Pierre Perrin of Mery-Sur-Oise, France, Philippe Pypaert and Chiara Pizzinato of Treviso, Italy, Veronique and Jean-Pierre Cornet of Habaru, Leglise, Belgium, Emmanuel and Veronique Pypaert of Salle, Belgium, and Jean-Benoit and Julie Pypaert of Fernelmont, Belgium. Marc grew up and lived in Belgium until the age of 23 when he and his new bride moved to Scotland for two years. They then lived in London for four years before living in Switzerland for three. Then it was back to Belgium for four more years before settling in Hamden nine years ago. Marc graduated from the University of Notre-Dame in Belgium with a Bachelor of Science in 1985, before continuing his education at the University of Dundee in Scotland where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. He went on to work at various universities throughout Europe, until accepting his position at Yale. Most recent positions include Department of Cell Biology's Director of the Electron Microscopy Facility, first as Associate Research Scientist and then as Research Scientist at the Yale School of Medicine. Marc also published extensively, roughly 70 publications, in all major research journals. He was a past president of the CT Electron Microscopy Society and the Ridge Top Swim and Tennis Club for two years. He was a member of the Frontline Christian Church and formerly a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church. Marc was an accomplished photographer with a passion for art. He created contemporary abstract photos at great magnification that were both fascinating and intriguing. On numerous occasions, he took part in City Wide Open Studios at ArtSpace New Haven. He wrote and played classical guitar music and used his beautiful tenor voice to sing in church choirs around the world. Marc was a skilled golfer, loved tennis, and was a master at chess. With an appreciation for good food, his family had their own personal, talented chef. Throughout his own battle against brain cancer, Marc's outstanding body of work in cancer research puts great emphasis on the importance he placed in his hope to help other people by finding a cure. Marc never gave up and never lost his faith, which meant that in the end he was victorious through His Lord and Savior. Marc was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Despite his amazing career, he never lost sight of what was number one in his life and that was his family, his friends, and his Christian Faith. A Celebration of Marc's life will be celebrated at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 33 Center Rd., Woodbridge on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
