Obituary

Margaret Scavino Bortolan Grosso passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the age of 87. Born in New Haven on October 1, 1924 to Giuseppe and Giuseppina Pregliusco Scavino. She lived most of her life in Hamden. Margaret leaves three children, Dante (Cynthia) Bortolan of Rocky Hill, Fred (Mary) Bortolan of Branford, and Sylvia (Chris) Terew of Milford; seven cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Melissa, Zachary, Nicole, Christopher and Matthew Bortolan and Roza Terew; her sister, Geraldine Squeglia and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husbands Dante Bortolan and Daniel Grosso and her brother Peter Scavino. Margaret loved to spend time playing with her grandchildren. She always said 'I'm a mother and grandmother first!' She was always there for her family and grandchildren and would drop everything when they called. Her kind and thoughtful way allowed her to be the first to help neighbors and those in need. Margaret's house was always the place for a cup of coffee, danish or a laugh. Visiting the Redwood flea market was a favorite past time where she loved to find pottery and milkglass. Besides being a wonderful mother and grandmother, Margaret owned the Blacksmith Antique Shop and the Squirrel's Nest in Hamden. She especially enjoyed her trip to Italy and Florida. The family would like to thank the staff of CT Hospice in Branford for the compassionate care she received. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, on Saturday, August 25th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Hamden, at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Centerville Cemetery following the Mass. Friends are also invited to visit with the family on Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
