Margaret DiBenedetto, daughter of Dr. Alois and Christine Von-Morse Schuster, and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and esteemed opera singer, passed away peacefully at age 96 on October 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alphonse DiBenedetto, with whom she shared a devoted and love-filled marriage, as well as her siblings, Francis Eimer, Alice LaViola, and Rudolph Schuster.
Margaret's life was filled with warmth, joy, and laughter. She was a proud mother to her four children, S. Mark (LaMona) DiBenedetto, Darlene Rodgers, Lisa (Russell) Whitfield, and Adria (Bill) Labagnara, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Margaret's love extended beautifully to her grandchildren, Robert Rodgers, Audrey Whitfield, Rachel Conway, Michael Labagnara, Brandon Labagnara, Ethan Labagnara, Alex DiBenedetto and Lucas DiBenedetto, all of whom were deeply cherished.
A renowned dramatic soprano, Margaret graced the opera stage locally and nationally. Margaret built a home filled with family, love, laughter, and song, creating unforgettable memories.
Margaret's presence had a way of making people feel valued and understood, whether she was lending an ear or offering sage advice. Margaret's sweetness and gentle spirit shone brightly in every interaction, and her capacity to give freely to others defined her as a treasured friend and confidante.
Margaret leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and the joyous memories she created for all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with Margaret's family on Saturday, November 2 nd from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, with a service celebrating her life beginning in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
