Obituary

In Masonic Hospice, Wallingford, May 30, 2003, Marguerite Burkhart Verrill, 86, wife of the late George Alpha Verrill, Jr., of Worth Ave., Hamden, survived by a son, E.J.B. Verrill of Houston, Texas, a daughter, Wendy Lydia Verrill Weimann of Lander, Wyoming and two grandchildren, Noelle M. Weimann and Robert Paul Weimann IV also of Lander, WY. Predeceased by a brother, Ralph Burkhart of Knoxville, TN. She was born Nov. 17, 1916 in Flowers Hospital in New York City, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth Johnson Burkhart. She went to high school in Knoxville, TN, and attended U. of Tenn for two years, then graduated from K. Gibbs Secretarial School. She was a Family Genealogist of all branches. Recording Secretary, also program Registrar;Geneology Chairman of the Mary Clap Wooster Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, New Haven. Attending State and National Conventions in Washington, DC. She loved to travel and had been all over the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans including Russia and had gone thorough the Panama Canal three times. Loved going to New York to plays and the Metropolitan Museum and the Natural History Museum. She was for years the Secretary of the Friends of the Hamden Library, member of the New Haven Women's Club, Hamden Historical Society, East Tenn. Historical Society, Ft. Riley, Kansas Historical Society and Museum. Member of the Southern Conn. Art Gallery and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. She loved to cook and do needlepoint, read history and travel. A volunteer at the Trees of Christmas at the New Haven Historical Society and NHCH Soc. Book Sales. A former resident of Woodbridge, she worked for the Red Cross Blood Drive for Twenty Years. Awards and honors include: Hamden Historical Society, Friends of the Miller Library, New Haven Historical Society and Red Cross Volunteers. Worked at J.C. Penny in buying Departments and personnel Depts; and Yale University and New Haven Pulp and Board Company during the war years in Personnel Dept. as assistant to Personnel Director. Memorial service to be held at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
