Marilyn Simons Turnburke, 89, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018 at Whitney Center in Hamden, CT. Born in Providence, RI on April 30, 1929, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy Holt Simons and a graduate of Wellesley College. Marilyn was a resident of Largo and Indian Shores, FL for 25 years, where she was a dedicated volunteer at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and a member of St. Anne of Grace Episcopal Church in Seminole. Before moving to Florida, Marilyn resided in Mt. Kisco, NY, and worked at Horace Greeley High School. Marilyn is survived by her sister Barbara S. Compton; daughters Anne T. Harrison (Daniel), and Constance T. Cahill; grandchildren Glenn, Theo, and Charlotte Harrison, and Matt and Dorothy Cahill; and great-granddaughter Sophia Cahill. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Vernon P. Turnburke Jr.; her daughter Gail T. Snyder; and sister Marjorie S. Gilcher. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Marilyn on Saturday, August 18 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas's Episcopal Church, 830 Whitney Ave., New Haven, CT. Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden is assisting with the arrangements.
