Obituary

Marion Rose (Rowland) Visel, 94, of Day Spring Avenue, Hamden, died peacefully Sunday, August 17, 2008 in Branford, CT, surrounded by her family. Marion was born on November 26, 1913 in New Haven to Marion Glynn Rowland and John Oliver Rowland. She graduated from The Teachers College of Connecticut in 1935, and taught in the Hamden School System. She remembered playing teacher as a child under the grape arbor in the back yard of her Second Street, Hamden home. She loved children and could teach any subject. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Visel, Sr. She was predeceased by son, Arthur J. Visel, Jr. She is survived by son, John R. Visel, daughters Marion B. Visel, Alice Visel-Jackson all of Hamden, Irene (Visel) Eagan of Baltimore, MD, and Jean Visel of Branford. She loved her sons-in-law Richard A. Jackson and Edward Eagan, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Marion loved and appreciated her Visel and Fitch in-laws, and nieces and nephews on both sides of her family. Although she was the oldest she was predeceased by siblings, Pearl (Rowland) Warfield, John O. Rowland, Jr., Frederick and William Rowland. Marion loved nature, reading, travel and movies but most of all spending time with her extensive circle of family and friends. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Wed., Aug. 20, 2008 at 11 AM, with a reception and visiting with family immediately following in Laurel View Country Club, 310 West Shepard Ave., Hamden. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Friends of the Hamden Library, 2901 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518 or to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405. Arrangements are in care of Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden.
