Obituary

Mark Phillip Wenzel, 40, of Hamden, CT, passed away with his loved ones by his side on June 23, 2023. He was born to James Wenzel and the late Phyllis Wenzel on May 25, 1983 in New Haven, CT, and continued to be loved and raised by his father James and his stepmother Margaret Wenzel following his mother's passing in 1998.
Mark, a true protector at heart, is survived by his two daughters, Bella and Lexi, his brother Erik Wenzel, his wife Christine Wenzel, and their two boys, Elliot and Sebastian Wenzel, and his stepsister Lindsey Shaker. Mark was also loved fiercely by his extended family, which includes Darren, Carlene, Nicholas and Tyler Magro, John, Nicole, Rachel, Colin, and Riley Redmond, and Krisanne, Crystal, and Ethan Gemma.
It is believed the Greeks didn't write obituaries, and instead asked only one question after a man died: Did he have passion? The short answer is, yes, Mark had passion. He was passionate about fighting for the people and things he loved most-and Mark loved his girls more than anything in the world.
An avid dog trainer, one of Mark's most prized attributes was his ability to connect with animals beautifully and honestly. When working with animals, their unspoken communication bonded them and provided a sense of calm for both. Watching Mark train dogs was genuinely remarkable. The feelings of joy and purpose it provided him was palpable and undeniable.
Funeral services for Mark will be held privately with his family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the ICU Department of MidState Medical Center, 435 Lewis Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451, as a tribute to the healthcare workers that conducted excellent end-of-life care for Mark.
