Obituary

Martin F. Onieal, 98 of the West Haven VA Hospital, husband of the late Marion P. Onieal passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015. He was born on November 7, 1916 to the late Martin Francis and Frances Long Onieal in Menlo Park, NJ. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Rose Bouffard of Wolcott and son Marty Onieal of Wilton Manors, FL, sister Rita Saxon O'Connor of Sunrise, FL, grandchildren David S. Rose and wife Tracey of Oxford, Robert C. Rose and wife Michelle of Glastonbury, step-grandchildren Jennifer Charbonneau and Robert Bouffard. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Brandon Richard Rose, Justin Anthony Rose, Cailin Elizabeth Rose and Tessa Onieal Rose, Serena Sue Charbonneau, Luke Robert Charbonneau, Ava Diane Charbonneau, Colby Robert Bouffard and many nieces and nephews. Martin was pre-deceased by three brothers, all of whom served in WWII: Eugene, John and George Onieal.Martin served in the US. Army during WWII from 1942-1945 in England, Italy and North Africa. He was employed as a sales representative for NCR until his retirement, and afterwards successfully competed in four Veterans Golden Age Olympics. He also founded the Patients Library at the West Haven VA Hospital Heroes' Harbor, which was dedicated in his name. A service celebrating Martin's life will take place on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Beecher & Bennett-Taylor Funeral Home, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. Friends may visit with Martin's family from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the CT State Veterans' Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Martin's name to: VA CT. Healthcare System, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516 writing 'RCATS CLC T3West' in the check's memo. This fund directly benefits recreational programs for patients.
