Obituary

Mary Lou Fiore, loving wife of 64 years of Joseph A. Fiore Jr., of North Haven passed away March 16, 2016 in Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. Beloved mother of Denise J. Fiore of Clinton, and Dale (Rose) Fiore of North Haven. Grandmother of Amelia and Francesca Fiore, and she is also survived by her sister Dorothy Jane Putney, of North Haven. Mary Lou was born in New Haven, a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Caracciolo Gaetano, and had resided in Hamden before moving to North Haven in 1965. As an artist, sculptor, and painter; she was the founder and first President of the North Haven Art Guild in 1966 and later served as Co-President with her husband for several years. She was a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and a member of the Mt. Carmel Art Assoc., Guilford Art League, Clinton Art Society, an 8 year board member of the Shoreline & New Haven Visitors Bureau, and she started the North Haven Cultural Center in 1979. In addition, Mary Lou was a very active longtime member of the Girl Scouts, having facilitated trips internationally for her Girl Scout Troops to both Bermuda and Mexico. She enjoyed traveling to Paris and visiting art museums and promoting the arts. Funeral service will be Monday morning, March 21, at 11 AM at BEEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE, HAMDEN. Friends may visit with her family Sunday from 3-6 pm. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.
