Obituary

Mary Jane (Anderson) Gorman, born in New Haven, CT June 21, 1929. Wife of Edward F. Gorman, Jr. Daughter of the late William C. and Wilhelmina (Gaul) Anderson. Survived by daughter Karen Ann (Robert) Galluzzo of Meriden and sons Edward F. (Joanne) Gorman III of Killingworth and Carl W. Gorman of Hamden. Also survived by five grandchildren, Michael and Krystina Galluzzo of Meriden, Lindsay, Kevin, and Patrick Gorman of Killingworth, and several neices and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Deborah, her parents, brothers William J. Anderson, George E. Anderson and sister Genevieve A. Welch. Mary Jane was a graduate of Commercial High School of New Haven. She was a secretary for the Hamden Board of Education for 21 years. She was an artist and enjoyed painting landscapes, seascapes and animals in oil paints, charcoal and chalk, pen and ink sketches and pastels. An avid baker especially at Christmas time baking German Christmas Stollen and over 2, 000 cookies from recipes she gathered from around the world. These treats would be given to her friends and neighbors. She also delighted her grandchildren with personalized birthday cakes she painstakingly decorated with cartoon characters or animals of their choosing. Mary Jane enjoyed gardening and always had a vegetable garden and shared with family and friends. Also a lover of animals and birds, she always had a feeder full of seeds year round which she enjoyed not only the birds but the squirrels and chipmunks. Although not a member of the Hamden Elks Lodge, she was instrumental in initiating the Children's Easter Egg Hunt and the Christmas Giving Tree whose gifts were given to the underprivileged youths in the area. She was a contributor to Animal Haven (where she adopted two of her dogs), various Disabled Veteran Organizations, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Koman Breast Cancer, Christian Appalacian Project, St. Labre Indian School, Southwest Indian Children's Fund, American Indian Relief Council, Best Friends Animal Society and Juvenile Diabetes. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN Monday Dec. 12. at 9:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Friends may visit with her family Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.
