Mary Alice (Pugh) Harris, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama, died Sept. 5, 2000 at the Westfield Care and Rehab Center in Meriden after a brief illness. She was born on Feb. 29, 1908 in Calera, Alabama to James and Elizabeth McKinzie Argo, but resided in Birmingham for most of her life, moving to Meriden in 1996. She had been very active in several fraternal organizations that spanned fifty years, namely, the Ladies Auxiliary of Railroad Trainmen, the Eastern Star,Amaranths, White Shrine, the Phythians and many other organizations. She served as the top official in many of these fraternal organizations,constantly lending a hand to those in need. She is survived by two children, Alice Kendrick of Pinson, AL and Arthur M. (Mildred) Pugh, Sr. of Meriden; a grandson, Arthur M. Pugh, Jr. of Meriden; a sister Willie Mae Skinner of Birmingham; four stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Marion Grady Pugh and David Lee Harris. She was a longtime member of the Lakewood Baptist Church in the East Lake section of Birmingham and was very active in church activities. Funeral service Friday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. at John's Ridout Roebuck Chapel, 9012 Parkway East, Birmingham, AL. Interment in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Pinson, AL.
