Obituary

Mary 'Marilyn' Patricia Shields, 88, wife of the late Francis J. Shields, passed away at Whitney Manor on July 25, 2016. Born in New Haven on December 19, 1927 to the late David & Mary O'Donell Lyons. Marilyn will be remembered by her children, Carol (Gary) Williams and Robert (Susan) Shields all of Hamden; cherished grandchildren, Christine Williams of Wallingford, Sarah Shields of Hamden, & Nicholas Shields of Boston, MA; loving sister, Margaret Filipowich of Orange; sister-in-law, June Shields of Wallingford; several nieces & nephews and many dear friends. Predeceased by her sister & brother-in-law, Justine & Walter Stanford and brothers-in-law, Alex Filipowich and Jack Shields. Marilyn was a member of the Owenego Beach & Tennis Club in Branford and the High Lane Club where she was an avid bowler. She was a longtime resident of Hamden having worked at Yale for 25 years in the Human Resources. Marilyn greatly enjoyed trips with her family or bus trips with her friends. The family wishes to thank the management & staff of Whitney Manor for their excellent nursing care, compassion, and concern for Mary and her family. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Friday, July 29th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Contributions in Mary's memory may be sent to Camp Rising Sun Charitable Foundation, P.O.
