Obituary

MERIDEN - Mildred L Jepson, 95, of Meriden, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Miller Memorial Community in Meriden. She was the wife of the late George S. Jepson. Born in Yalesville on July 3, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Ray and Lilla May Terrell Andrews. She attended school in Wallingford and upon her marriage to George Jepson in 1931, she moved to Meriden where she resided for many years. Upon her husband's death in 1960, she took over the operation of Jepson's Book Store on Colony Street and later served as administrative assistant to the business manager at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford for a number of years. Mildred, as she was known, enjoyed music and loved to play her beloved Hammond church organ. She volunteered her services at the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital gift shop. Later in life she continued to play piano and organ and entertained the residents at Miller Memorial Communuty where she had lived for the last several years. She was known for her energy, sharp mind and positive thinking. She loved painting, crafts and working in the community store and was an inspiration to both residents and staff at Miller. Mildred is survived by two sons, Richard Jepson of Guilford and David Jepson and his wife, Sharon of Glastonbury; four grandchildren, Dianne Jepson of Madison, Lynn Jepson of Pembroke, ME, Richie and Arlene Jepson of Madison and Arthur Jepson of New York City; and five great-grandchildren, Brian, Forest, Justin, Richard and Amanda and a brother, Albert Andrews of Wallingford. She was predeceased by a brother, Malcolm T. Andrews. Funeral service Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Jane White-Hassler will officiate. Burial will be in West Cemtery in Meriden. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Miller Memorial Community, 360 Broad Street, Meriden, CT 06450.
