Mirta Maria Haydée Langou

It is with heavy hearts, yet profound gratitude for a life filled with love, that we announce the passing of Mirta Maria Haydée Piacenza Langou, 83, of Beacon Falls, Connecticut. Born on October 9, 1942, in Córdoba, Argentina, Mirta was a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity. She passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Mirta was the cherished daughter of Palmiro Miguel Piacenza and Maria Haydée Cabrera Piacenza. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, Dr. René Alberto Langou, and by her dear brother, Miguel Piacenza, whom she always held close to her heart.

On December 24, 1966, Mirta married the love of her life, René Langou, in Córdoba, Argentina. In 1969, at the age of 26, Mirta and René, together with their eldest daughter, embarked on a courageous journey to the United States, where they built a warm and welcoming home and created a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and community.

Mirta is survived by her three devoted children: Viviana Langou Livesay and her husband, Mark, of Woodbridge, Connecticut; Albert Langou and his wife, Berenice, of Canton, Connecticut; and Suzanne Langou of Orange, Connecticut. She was affectionately known as “Mimita,” a nickname lovingly given to her by the grandchildren she adored: Sofia Langou (Matthew Pickett), Thomas Livesay, Julia Langou, William Livesay, Natalie Langou, and Emily Langou.

She is also fondly remembered by her devoted caregivers, Patricia and Maria Bethannia, whose compassionate and unwavering support brought comfort and dignity during her final years.

Mirta earned a master's degree in languages and linguistics from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba and began her career as an elementary school teacher in Argentina. After settling in the United States, she dedicated herself to raising her family. Later, she returned to her passion for education as a Spanish instructor at the Berlitz Language Center, where she taught professionals from ESPN, Aetna, and other local organizations.

A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge, Connecticut, Mirta sang in the church choir for many years and volunteered as a driver for elderly residents in her community. She embraced life with enthusiasm and grace. She enjoyed traveling to Argentina, throughout Europe, and especially to St. Augustine, Florida; socializing with friends at the Chatfield Farms clubhouse; attending classical music performances at Woolsey Hall with her husband; and playing the piano. Above all, however, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, sharing laughter, meals, and unconditional love.

Known for her warmth and kindness, Mirta greeted everyone with a welcoming smile. She possessed a remarkable ability to see the good in others and accepted people for who they were. She also was a wonderful listener and conversationalist who had a special talent for making even the most introverted comfortable talking to her. She expressed her love through hospitality and food, and her home was a gathering place where family, friends, and visitors alike were always welcomed and nourished. She also became an adopted mother to many Argentine students and friends living in the United States, offering encouragement, guidance, and a sense of home while they were far from their own families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on September 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge, Connecticut. Burial will follow at East Side Cemetery in Woodbridge. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut.

Mirta's family takes comfort in the countless beautiful memories she leaves behind and in the knowledge that her spirit of kindness, generosity, faith, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
