WALLINGFORD - Norman Alfred Duke, 79, of Highland Ave., died Sunday, July 7, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Edna Hintz Duke for 52 years. He was born in Meriden, April 29, 1923, a son of the late Thomas and Lenna Bruenn Duke. He served with the 29th Engineers in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. He held a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Yale University. He retired in 1983 as Vice President of Manufacturing at CHR Industries in New Haven. He had been a charter member of the Gardeners of Greater New Haven, and served as Treasurer, he was Treasurer of the Meriden Wallingford Yale Club. He was an associate member of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathon and Lisa Duke of Needham, MA and a grandson, Tobias Alfred Duke of Needham, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, William Duke. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. David R. Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden or at the church one hour prior to the service.
