Patricia J. Smith

Patricia Jane Smith, 66, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026. She was born in New Haven on December 1, 1959 to the late Charles and Helen Trainor Smith.

Patty loved growing up in the Barraclough Avenue neighborhood of Hamden where she retained many lifelong friendships. She was a graduate of Hamden High School, class of ’77 and then went on to business school for Travel and Tourism. Patty worked for American Airlines as an agent for 40 years until her retirement. She is still remembered fondly by her coworkers and her clients. She moved 17 years ago and made Cary, NC her home. Patty loved traveling (especially to the beaches in Aruba), seeing the world, and experiencing other cultures. Patty will always be remembered as being the life of the party, with her infectious smile, laugh and sense of wit, whether it be at a family get together or holiday celebration.

Patty, lovingly referred to as Peppermint Patty or PJS by her family, will be forever remembered by her siblings and their spouses, Edward and Susan Smith, Kevin and Rita Smith, Maureen Trumble, and Charlene and Richard Fusco. Her many nieces and nephews, Scott, Tim, Katie, Shawn, Lauren, Stacey, Kelly, Kristin, Ricky and Shannon all held a special place in her heart.
