Raymond A. Smith, age 84, passed away March 24, 2008 at his residence, 70 Southwick Court in Cheshire. Raymond was formerly of Hamden, the widower of Margaret Gustavson Smith. Raymond was the father of Jan and her husband Leon Slomkowski of Hamden and Karen Jones and her fiancee Marc Methot of Leicester, MA; grandfather of Sarah & Julia Jones, Heidi, Kate & Tyler Slomkowski; brother of the late Charlotte Johnson, Winifed Tomlinson, Roger, Norman & Curtis Smith. Raymond also leaves several nieces and nephews. Born in New Haven on Oct. 23, 1923 he was a son of the late Archie and Grace Hale Smith. He was a WWII US Army Veteran and a retired Industrial Engineer, employed by Robert Shaw Controls in Milford and the former Acme Wire Co. of Hamden. Raymond was a life long member of the Dunbar United Church of Christ , a Deacon Emeritus of the church and very active in many of the functions of the church along with his late wife Margaret. He enjoyed his artistic work, painting many pictures and his attendance of his many army reunions with the 97th Recon. His Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 11 AM in the Dunbar United Church. Friends may call at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM.
