Obituary

Richard Bulkley Stanton, 91, of Hamden, loving husband of Mary (Marcon) Stanton died on Friday, October 20 at home. He was born on August 21, 1926 in Sharon, Conn. He was son of the late Stephen Aloysius Stanton and Daisy Isabel Bulkley (Charles) Skidmore. Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Mary Louise Marcon of Lakeville, Conn. Also surviving are his children; Gerald Stanton of Salisbury, Deborah (Robert Roy) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Timothy (Colleen Sutton) Stanton of Cromwell, Kathleen (Paul DeBrum) of Middlefield, Mary (Buddy DeGennaro) of Woodbridge and Peter (Nancy Leahy) Stanton of Cheshire. He also leaves his beloved sisters, Patricia Smith and Eileen Cackowski, and fourteen cherished grandchildren; Amelia (Fabian Pineda) Stanton, Robert (Angela Newton) Roy, Marissa (Mark Behm), Andrew (Lindsey Madlinger), Brian and Michael Stanton, Corey and Eric DeBrum, Louis, Jacqueline and Claire Daisy DeGennaro, and Jack, Kevin and Caroline Stanton, great-grandchildren; Luca and Alora Roy, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brothers; Stephen, Brian and James. A graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Falls Village, Conn., Richard served with distinction with the U.S. Navy during the invasion of Okinawa in World War II. As a Naval Reservist, he was later called to active duty to Atsugi Air Force Base in Japan from where he was deployed to the Korean Peninsula. He was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Company and retired after 35 years as a Labor Relations executive in 1991. A long-time member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden, Richard served as a Eucharistic Minister in the parish and at St. Raphael's Hospital. In 2005, he was awarded the Archdiocese of Hartford Medal of Appreciation from Archbishop Henry Mansell. Friends may visit with Richard's family at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11:00 on Friday, October 27, 2017. Guests are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services at 228 West Lexington St., Baltimore, MD 21201, or to the St. Ann's Soup Kitchen at 930 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06514.
