Obituary

Wallingford - Robert E. Overstrom Jr., 55 passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Conn. Hospice in Branford. He was born August 10, 1953 in Meriden a son of the late Robert and Doris (Stafford) Overstrom. He was a 1971 graduate of Wilcox Tech., where he was captain of the Track Team and earned an Associates Degree in 1979 from Middlesex Community College. He proudly served his country in the U.S.Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS McCandles. Bob worked for 27 years for the Veterans Administration as a Boiler Plant Operator across the country, including Newington, CT, Rutland, VT, Ft. Collins, CO, Denver, CO, West Palm Beach, FL, Billings, MT and Cheyenne, WY. He was former president of the AFG Local 2430. Bob enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, including baseball, softball, basketball, hunting, fishing and camping. He coached and played softball for the 13 years and umpired for 2 years for the Meriden Amateur Softball Association. Bob is survived by a sister, Karen and her husband Paul Kupfer of Meriden, two brothers, Gene Overstrom of Wallingford and Mark Overstrom of Meriden a niece Christina and her husband Greg Bergin of Golden, CO, a nephew, Geoffrey Kupfer of Meriden and a great-niece, Brianna Bergin. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at the Connecticut Veteran's Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Burial will follow. The Rev. Alden Barnes will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations in Robert's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Beecher & Benentt-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden is in charge of the arrangements.
