Obituary

ROBERT A. WOJAN - MERIDEN, CTRobert Albert Wojan, 79, of Meriden, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden following heart surgery at Hartford Hospital in November. Bob was the youngest of four children born to Julius and Augusta (Hoffman) Wojan of Meriden. He lived in Meriden, Burlington and Bristol, CT. for most of his life. He resided in Montana in his early years and returned there often, most recently shortly before his death.Bob had a great love of nature and the outdoors, and especially loved living in Montana. He worked there as a forest fire fighter, saw mill operator, and guide for big game parties hunting elk and mountain sheep. One of his most prized trophies was an elk whose antlers were three quarters of an inch shy of the world record. Bob was employed for many years by Mutrie Motor Transport of Wallingford and Wyatt Oil of New Haven, as a long-distance hauler of liquid freight. He was active in the peace movement during the Korean War and performed his civilian public service duty at Goodwill Industries in New Haven. Bob was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Joan (Holbrook) Wojan, and stepdaughter, Michelle (Pardew) O'Callahan. Bob respected and supported the Biblical research, activities, and concerns of his wife in connection with the Kingdom Hall program. He was also pre-deceased by his sister, Dorothy Wojan, and brother, George Wojan. He is survived by a stepson, Arthur Pardew and his wife Sarah, their daughter Olivia, her husband Jared Newland and their daughter Lila; their son, Caleb; a stepdaughter, Victoria Price, all of Ocala, FL; and a stepson, Marty Lane of Mississippi. He is also survived by his brother, Bernard 'Ben' Wojan of Meriden; a nephew, Mark Wojan of Los Angeles, CA; a niece, Martha Steenburgh and her husband Jay Bailey, along with their son and daughter Robert and Alexandra Bailey, of New Hartford; a niece, Marilyn Steenburgh of West Hartford; a nephew, Alaric Wojan of Cromwell; a nephew, Timothy Wojan and his wife Lila, and their children, Elise, Christian, and Olivia, of Rockville, MD; and a niece, Joan Wojan of Boston, MA. All who knew him will miss Bob's steadiness, sense of humor, and good nature. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, on Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Internment will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Old Colony Rd., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT., 06111, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
