Roberto G. Pouncey, 74, passed away on May 25, 2016 at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Paula Bittle-Pouncey of 41 years. Born in New Haven on June 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Odis Pouncey and Inez Jackson-Abrams. After high school, Roberto enlisted into the military and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for 34 years at several different trucking companies driving those 18 wheelers, but he loved working for Yellow Freight Company the most, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 443 truck driver's union. He had such a passion and got so much enjoyment out of his job; he was very proud to be a truck driver. Other than his wife, Roberto is survived by his daughter Lisa Pouncey-Creacy; sons; Roberto Salvatore Pouncey, Derrick Promise, Juan Duarte, Sean Reeves, Jesse Jaurice Bittle and the pride of his life, his son Eric Lamont Pouncey; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Odis Coleman and Wilfred Fluery, and a host of family members and good friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Maryann Pouncey and Adeline Thomas. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Roberto's family on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden and again from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at St Luke's Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
