Romulo Loyola Villar, M.D., 83, loving husband of Josephine M.P. Villar, of North Haven, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1931, to the late Leon and Pomposa Villar in Tabaco, Philippines. Romulo leaves behind his daughters Marie-Louise Villar and her husband Gary Asfalg, Noemi (Toby) Crosby and her husband Jonathan, Sonia Schatz and her husband Eric, Cynthia DeMatteis and her husband Frank. He also leaves his brother Fermin Villar of VA, sisters Dr. Victorina Villar, Bernadita Villar, and Marta Loveres. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Victoria, Alexander, Jonathan Caleb, Romulo Joshua, Caroline Isabella, Catherine, David, Andrew, and Frankie, along with many special friends who were considered family. Romulo is predeceased by his brothers Msgr. Demetrio Villar, Gualberto Villar, and his sister Consuela Obed. After receiving his medical degree, and completing his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Romulo was a partner in the Waterbury Anesthesiology Associates, practicing at St. Mary's and Waterbury Hospitals. He excelled in his career, but his family was his true passion. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, painting, and traveling. Friends may visit with Romulo's family on Friday, August 7, 2015, from 4-8pm in the Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. On Saturday, August 8, 2015, his funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 9:30am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10am.
