Ronald B.
Remer
August 14, 1950 – October 8, 2024
Ronald (Ron) B. Remer, 74, of Hamden, passed away in the comfort of his home on October 8, 2024. Ron, the son of the late Sidney and Mae Horvitz Remer, was born in Manhattan, NY on August 14, 1950. Ron shared his life with his wife of 48 years, Geraldine (Gerry) McCann Remer. He is also survived by the sons he was so proud of: David Remer and his wife Carla of Wallingford, and Matthew Remer and his wife Casey of Penfield, NY. His five grandchildren, Sydney, Arlo, Nathan, Matilda, and Sylvie Remer were the joys of his life. He was predeceased by his sister, Leah (Lynne) Allen Shwartz. Ron also leaves behind a plethora of much-loved brothers- and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends new and old.
A former resident of New Haven, Ronald lived in Hamden for the past 25 years.
Before his retirement Ron was a self-employed manufacturers' representative in the promotional products industry. His love of people made him a natural salesman and the pens and other imprinted items he loved to give away opened the door to all kinds of new friends and experiences over the years.
Ron found great joy in spending time with family and friends. Whether it was a gathering of 40 or more for Thanksgiving, a game of bocce with old friends, or having all the grandchildren and nieces and nephews scrambling for Easter eggs, he enjoyed bringing people together. He always made sure everyone's glasses were full, and joy and laughter were being shared by all.
Before his extended illness curtailed his activities, Ron had begun to embrace semi-retirement, working part time at the Yale British Art Gallery, as well as taking on community projects such as working with the Spring Glen association on Whitney Avenue traffic control, volunteering for Hamden CERT, and picking up trash on his daily walks.
In addition to his love of people, Ron had a passion for music, nature, good food, and travel. He often sprinkled song lyrics into his conversations. Over the years there were so many trips: NE lakes or the Irish countryside with the extended family, Hawaii or the Caribbean with the in-laws, US Sites, European road trips, Mediterranean cruises with Gerry, Disney with the grandkids-you name it, he wanted to help organize it, and always added an element of fun to the endeavor.
Friends are invited to visit with Ronald's family from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13th, at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in Centerville Cemetery. If you wish to make a memorial contribution the family suggests either Gaylord Specialty Hospital or Connecticut Hospice, who supported Ron and his family at the beginning and end of his illness.
