West Haven - Russell Gordon Whitfield Jr. 79, of West Haven, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006 after a short illness at the Haven Health Soundview Home, West Haven. He was born in New Haven, July 26, 1927 a son af the late Russell G. and Mildred Cook Whitfield. He served as a Marine in Iwo Jima. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Masters Degree from the Williams School of Business. Until his retirement he was Vice President of People's Bank. He was a sports enthusiast. He is survived by two daughters, June Whitfield of Colchester, CT, Leslie Danon of Elverano, CA, a son, and his wife, Russell and Lisa Whitfield of New Haven, four grandchildren, Stephanie Howard of Norwich, Zachary Howard of Colchester, Audrey Whitfield of New Haven and Rachel Whitfield of New Haven. He was predeased by a daughter, Susan Whitfield and a brother, Nathan Whitfield.. Funeral service Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at the BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR Funeral Home, 410 Cambell Ave., West Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
