Scott T. Macdowall

Scott Thomas Macdowall, 58, loving husband of Barbara (Knoll) Macdowall, passed away suddenly on May 9, 2026. He was born in New Haven on December 8, 1967, a son of June (Sorensen) Macdowall and the late Walter Thomas Macdowall, Jr. After graduating from Hamden High School, Scott received two Associate in Science degrees in Hospitality and Culinary Management from Gateway Community College. He then earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Biology/Pre-Medical from the University of New Haven, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Quinnipiac University, later returning to Quinnipiac as an adjunct professor, where he also earned his Sixth Year Diploma in Educational Leadership. During this time, Scott wrote and taught Quinnipiac's Nutritional Chemistry course. Scott also taught Chemistry at Hamden High School for nearly twenty years, serving in his last year as an Administrator before moving to Guilford High School, where he served as Science Department Chair - an administrative role which also allowed him to continue his passion for teaching Chemistry in the classroom. Scott recently began serving on a state committee focused on improving student engagement, and made a meaningful impact supporting Guilford's Special Education classroom. In his earlier years, he was proud to work as an E.M.T. for New Haven Ambulance Co. and serve as a Volunteer Firefighter in Hamden. In addition to his wife Barbara, Scott is survived by his mother June (Sorensen) Macdowall, his loving children, Brad Macdowall, Jessica (Macdowall) Miali and her husband Brett, his two grandsons, Colt and Wyatt Miali, his brother, Thomas Walter Macdowall and his wife Keri, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many, many treasured friends.

Friends are invited to visit with Scott’s family on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment will be privately held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Scott's name may be made to Randy’s GSD Rescue at www.RescueDogVillage.com, to support Scott's passion of providing a second chance for German Shepherd Dogs.
