Obituary

MERIDEN - Sherman A. Stiles, 79, of Meriden, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Middlesex Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis Fearn Stiles and was a devoted husband and father, who will be very deeply missed. Born in Meriden on May 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Truman and Madeline Rebstock Stiles. Until his retirement, he was employed by the Town of Cheshire as a land surveyor and Assistant Town Engineer. He was a Cub Master for Pack 18 at Benjamin Franklin School, was a member of Black Sheep Squadron R/C Airplane Club and was a ham radio operator, call sign WA1VHR. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Stiles and her husband, Aroon Balani of Tewksbury, NJ; three sons, Kenneth Stiles of Meriden, David Stiles and his wife, Connie of Middletown and Brian Stiles of Westbrook; a grandchild, Adam Stiles; two sisters, Barbara Brainard and Lucille Kenney; many nieces and nephews; and his cat, Red Kitty. He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Shur. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. At the family's request, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sherman's memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 22 East Road, Meriden, CT 06450.
