Born in Newbury NH on October 8, 1929, Shirley grew up in Nelson, NH (a town dear to her heart) where she attended a one-room schoolhouse. She was a graduate of Keene High School, class of 1946. She was proud of her Yankee and Scottish heritage. Shirley was loved by all. She created a home for her husband and children that was filled with love, good food, family, neighbors, and friends. It was a home where all were welcome and was a refuge for many. She was a fantastic cook and could make a feast from the simplest of ingredients. She could create beauty out of anything, whether with paint and brush, the written word, or fabric and thread. She hosted a weekly craft and sewing circle for many years, made many quilts for her family. Creating doll houses was a favorite activity. Shirley had a remarkably happy life spent with her soul mate, Charlie. She did all the bookkeeping for the family business while raising five children and running a home. After retirement, they travelled abroad and across the U.S. and Canada, embarking often on less travelled roads and unique trips. She loved her country home in Nelson, NH and her winter home in Punta Gorda, Fla. The family would like to thank Gina, Danielle, Kim, and Jean of Masonicare Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
