Thomas Welles Squire, 67, passed away suddenly on August 8, 2026, in Meriden, CT. Tom was the second child of three born to Nancy Fowler Squire and the late Robert Wolcott Squire, Sr. He is survived by his loving mother, Nancy, his brother, Robert, sister-in-law, Mary, his sister, Betsy DeNote, and brother-in-law, Fred. Also his niece, Sarah Fasolo, her husband, Addison, and their two daughters, Delaney and Maren, whom Tom loved dearly and who, in turn, loved him dearly.
He attended Meriden public schools before graduating from the Marvelwood School in Kent, CT. In 2012, he retired after a 30-year career with the Meriden Water Department and the Meriden Public Works Department. Tom enjoyed music, concerts, skiing, camping, and volunteer work with local charities. He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he sponsored and inspired many recovering members over a thirty-year span, including service at the Cheshire Correctional Institution, mentoring inmates attempting to conquer their addictions. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Meriden, where he served as a Deacon, and helped with building maintenance and groundskeeping. Tom was respected as a kind, caring, empathetic and quiet man.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 62 Colony St., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, we invite friends and family to donate to a local charity in his memory. Arrangements are in care of Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
