Obituary

In New Haven, entered into eternal rest, Feb. 11, 2004, Victoria Almeida Cardoza, 93, of 56 Homestead Ave., Hamden. Wife of the late Walter Cardoza. Born April 12, 1910, in Brava, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rita Nunes Mendez Almeida. Mrs. Cardoza migrated to the USA in 1920 and resided in Ansonia, before moving to Hamden. In her earlier years she had been employed by the Farrell Foundry. Victoria was a member of St. John The Baptist Church in New Haven. She leaves, to cherish her memory, sons; Alfred J. Lobo and his wife, Rosalind of Hamden, George DeMatteis of Oakland, CA, Clayton Bruce Cardoza of Hamden, daughters; Rose Marie Lobo Hickson and her husband, Lawrence of Jacksonville, FL, Frances Barros and her husband, Carlos of New Haven and Josephine Pina and her husband, Albert, of New Haven, Margaret Dupree of Minnesota and a sister, Domitilia Almeida of S. Vincent, Cape Verde. Victoria is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren and several godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a dear friend, Maria Borges. She was predeceased by a son, Domingos (Dickey) S. Lobo, a brother, James Mendez and a granddaughter, Victoria (Cheecha) Santos. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN, Tuesday, Feb. 17th at 8:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John The Baptist Church at 9:00 A.M. Friends may call Monday from 5 - 8 P.M. Interment will be in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery, Derby.
