Obituary

Vittorina (Rena) Pallanti, 94, of Hamden, beloved wife of the late Bruno Pallanti, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2011 at St. Raphael Hospital. A Hamden resident for seventy years, she was born on May 16, 1917, in Waterbury to the late Giovanni and Maria Marraccini Vanni. Rena is survived by her loving sons, Edward and David; her loving daughters-in-law, Donna and Suzanne; her cherished granddaughter Megan and her granddaughter Amy; and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Julia Borghesi, of Torrington, and several nieces and nephews. Rena was predeceased by her twin brother, Mario Vanni, and sisters, Della Merighi, Lydia DeMarche, and Josephine Acquarelli. Rena devoted her life to taking care of her family. Her family will remember her as a loving mother and grandmother who had the warmest heart, a most generous soul, and a selfless spirit. She enjoyed baking, especially baking her delicious lemon meringue pie, and working in her garden. The funeral procession will leave from BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, on Saturday, June 11th at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hamden at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamden. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rena's memory may be sent to the Association of Marian Helpers, Eden Hill, Stockbridge, MA 01263, or to a charity of one's choice.
