Suddenly in Yale-New Haven Hospital, Feb. 14, 2006, Walter 'Scotty' H. Monteith, Jr., Past Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern New England Telephone Co., husband of Jane Marceau Monteith, father of Deborah Neubert and her husband, Michael of North Haven, Diane Marino and her husband, Michael of Pawleys Island, SC and Karen Flynn and her husband, Charles of Madison, CT, grandfather of Kimberly Neubert, Michael Neubert, Matthew Flynn and Christopher Flynn, brother of Elaine Monteith of Jamaica Plain, MA and Marie Devine of Cape Elizabeth, ME. Scotty was born Sept. 19, 1930 in Framingham, MA, son of the late Walter H. and Anne Sullivan Monteith, Sr. He was a graduate of Amherst College class of 1952 and held honorary degrees from Albertus Magnus College and the University of New Haven. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. He served on the Boards of: Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was former Chairman, Long Wharf Theatre, Fleet Bank, Connecticut Economic Development Corporation and Kaman Corporation. His awards include the Community Leadership Award from Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, United Negro College Fund Leadership Award, Quinnipiac Council Boy Scouts of America 'Good Scout Award', National Human Relations Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Discovery Award from Sacred Heart University and Providence College Veritas Award. He also served as President of United Way and was Charter Director of the Volvo International Tennis Tournament.
