Walter J. Kelley, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT, formerly of Surfside Beach, SC, passed away May 11, 2013 at the Hospice at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 23, 1928, son of the late Henry and Emma Kelley. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Sally (Reinig) Kelley. He is survived by his brother, Henry, of Hobe Sound FL, and two children, Susan Kelley (Robert Shields, Jr), of Woodbridge, CT and Peter Kelley (Arlene Terrill) of Wading River, NY. Walter is the devoted grandfather of Rachel and Christopher Shields and Jeffrey Kelley. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Bill Reinig, of Annapolis MD, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. After serving in the US Military in the Korean War, he received his BS in Pharmacy from St. John's University in Queens, NY, and enjoyed a long career as a pharmacist and as a middle school and high school teacher and administrator on Long Island and in Brewster, NY. Walter and Sally travelled extensively through the US and Europe, and also visited Australia, New Zealand and Africa. He was an avid user of computer technology and enjoyed reading US and European History. Services will be private. The family is grateful for the care and support Walter received from friends at Ashlar Village and the staff at Masonicare Health Center.
